It is time for a special event all the locals look forward to and all the visitors turn into a holiday tradition. Livingston Specialty Merchants’ Guild and Livingston Main Street are proud to invite everyone to this year’s Hometown Christmas event. The Livingston Hometown Christmas event will be on Saturday, December 9th, 2023 from noon to 8pm, in the traditional location on Jackson Avenue in Historical Downtown Main Street District of Livingston. Arts, Crafts and Food Vendors will be lined side by side from the corner of Church Street all the way to Milam Street. This is a day full of food and fun for all ages.
One wonderful feature at this annual event is the Kids Area in the parking lot by First State Bank. This adventure area will have a giant zorbs balls for racing. This area will also have additional games like an inflated “Candyland Course” and a “Trackless Train” to give rides to kids.
The kids’ area will also have additional booths and activities for the kids to interact with. There will be no shortage of things to keep busy with at this all day event. Lots of things in this area are totally free for kids thanks to generous sponsors from the community.
There will be the traditional Jingle Bell Fun Run around the event starting at 12pm at City Hall. The first 200 to register get a free t-shirt and bells. So make sure to get there early or register early at the Main Street Office at Pedigo Park. There is a 2 mile and a 5k run for anyone over age 11 and up to choose from. There will also be a 1 mile option for kids ages 10 and under. Awards will be given out for the fastest times. Prices of registration vary.
The Polk County Heritage Society's Christmas Toy Train Village will be open from 12pm-8pm at Good Golly Miss Molly's just around the corner from the main event at 406 North Washington. This is always a favorite for kids. They love to see all the tiny moving pieces working and the fun characters waiting to be found in the village.
The Livingston Piecemakers Quilt Guild will also be at this once a year event with a Quilt Show full of many unique works to see. They will also be available to talk about obtaining membership to the Quilt Guild so look for their booth under the awning of First State Bank in the middle of the action.
The Lighted Christmas Parade will come down Main Street at 6pm (dark). As the sun goes down on the town there will be float after float of holiday fun coming down Washington Avenue beginning on West Fourth Street and ending at Mill Street. Parking is always full, so get there early and enjoy some of the extra fun.
Many of the Historical Dowtown Main Street District shops will be open and ready for business. There are many new shops on Main Street to check out and enjoy including a cafe, a western apparel shop, Meat Market, a multi-vendor shop, and more.
